Nice tools, but what about the human?
Hi there, I am Roman Daniel-Gabriel and I have about 9 years of web based software development experience
First touch in programming was in High School learning C++ in computer science classes. It was not that attractive for me but it built a solid understanding of the programming world.
Right after I started tinkering with web development. Simpler or harder than C++? Who's to say? The attractive part for me was the immediate feedback of the work I was doing. The thought that I can help business right then to start using the web for growth was amazing so I started doing just that.
I live in Romania so in 2017 the web world was harsh. I started building WordPress websites. After about 1 / 2 years I started to heavily customize those websites. Nothing wrong with learning some jQuery, SQL and PHP.
After that I went into ecommerce websites using WooCommerce, PrestaShop, Open Cart and a bit of Shopify and a bit after that I started again to heavily modify these websites to be more suited for client needs.
Doing my fair share of custom development on these platforms I decided to cut the middle man and jumped into full stack developing to create apps that are heavily focused on client needs. I started with CodeIgniter 3, then Laravel then jumped on CodeIgniter 4 (which is now my work horse) and Symfony. Along with this embracing PHP OOP and using strong types with PHP.
The main reason for doing this is ease of development, project life and speed. I have CodeIgniter 3 apps that are standing strong after more than 5 years with little maintaining. CodeIgniter 4 for example uses a lot less resources than WordPress or PrestaShop and this gives the advantage of many users on low price hosting.
My go-to stack as of now is: CodeIgniter 4 on PHP 8.4+, MySQL, HTMX, plain Javascript and Bootstrap or Tailwind.
That is all, I've researched many tools and I like the flexibility and ease of development that my current toolset is providing.
This is my presentation. Let's see yours and let's work together.
